Endemism defines the Andaman Teal (Anas albogularis): the entire population is confined to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal, and the birds are non-migratory. A small dabbling duck of the family Anatidae, it is dark brown and mottled, with a pale throat and face set against a darker crown, an iridescent green speculum, a grey bill and greyish legs. Sexes are alike. It occupies freshwater pools, rice paddies, coastal marshes and mangrove-fringed inlets, and remains one of the least-studied ducks in Asia. Habitat loss and hunting are the principal pressures on the island population. Recorded birds average about 370 g with a wingspan near 37 cm.
