ヨーロッパ・アジアの森林・庭に広く分布するフィンチ（体長14〜16cm）。雄の鮮やかな赤い胸と灰色の背が特徴的で、黒い頭頂部と翼も識別点。Pyrrhula pyrrhula（ウソ）は花芽や果実の種子を食べ、果樹農家に被害を与えることもある。柔らかく哀愁のある鳴き声を持つ。日本のウソは亜種として分布。Fringillidae科。
