How to Tell Them Apart
Whooper Swan
All-white plumage. Long yellow bill with large wedge-shaped yellow patch extending past nostrils, contrasting with black tip. Long flat head profile. Holds neck erect and straight. Juveniles pale gray-brown.
Black-headed Duck
Male has distinctive jet-black head and neck, warm chestnut-brown back, and pale buff underparts; blue-grey bill with red base. Female is streaked brown above with pale supercilium and whitish underparts.

北ヨーロッパ・アジアで繁殖し、南方で越冬する大型のハクチョウ（体長140〜165cm）。純白の体と黄色が多い嘴が特徴。Cygnus cygnus（オオハクチョウ）は日本では北海道の阿寒湖、本州の猪苗代湖など各地の越冬地で見られ、ワシントン条約（CITES）とアフリカ・ユーラシア渡り性水鳥の保全に関する協定（AEWA）で保護されている。Anatidae科。

クロアタマカモはアルゼンチン・チリ・ウルグアイ・ブラジル南部の南アメリカ温帯湖沼・湿地に生息する托卵性のカモ（体長32〜35 cm）。雄は黒い頭と薄い茶色の体が特徴。他のカモ・コオット・ヒクイナの巣に托卵する。育雛しない数少ない水禽の一つ。
