北ヨーロッパ・アジアで繁殖し、南方で越冬する大型のハクチョウ（体長140〜165cm）。純白の体と黄色が多い嘴が特徴。Cygnus cygnus（オオハクチョウ）は日本では北海道の阿寒湖、本州の猪苗代湖など各地の越冬地で見られ、ワシントン条約（CITES）とアフリカ・ユーラシア渡り性水鳥の保全に関する協定（AEWA）で保護されている。Anatidae科。
