アフリカ原産だが現在は世界中の熱帯・亜熱帯に広く分布する小型のシラサギ（体長45〜52cm）。純白の体と黄色い嘴が特徴で、繁殖期には橙色の飾り羽が生える。Bubulcus ibis（アマサギ）は家畜の後について虫を食べることで有名で、20世紀に自力で世界中に分布を拡大した希有な例。Ardeidae科。

The Réunion Night-Heron (Nycticorax duboisi) is an extinct species of night-heron belonging to the family Ardeidae, formerly endemic to the island of Réunion in the southwestern Indian Ocean. The species is known only from a brief historical description by the early European traveler Dubois, who visited Réunion in 1671–1672 and described a large, gray-colored bird with a white belly that was hunted and eaten by settlers.
