アフリカ原産だが現在は世界中の熱帯・亜熱帯に広く分布する小型のシラサギ(体長45〜52cm)。純白の体と黄色い嘴が特徴で、繁殖期には橙色の飾り羽が生える。Bubulcus ibis(アマサギ)は家畜の後について虫を食べることで有名で、20世紀に自力で世界中に分布を拡大した希有な例。Ardeidae科。
