キジ科に属する中型のシャコ（約300g）で、赤みがかった喉と複雑な茶褐色の羽毛を持つ。インド北東部・バングラデシュからミャンマー、中国南西部、インドシナ北部にかけての亜熱帯・低山地森林に生息する。森林の地面で種子や無脊椎動物を採食する。軽度懸念；ヒマラヤ麓と東南アジアの山地林に広く分布し、個体数は安定している。
