北半球全域で繁殖し、南方で越冬する優雅なカモ（体長50〜76cm）。雄は茶色の頭と長い針状の尾が特徴的。Anas acuta（オナガガモ）は北極圏から温帯まで幅広い湿地で繁殖し、アジア、ヨーロッパ、北米で越冬する長距離渡り鳥。日本の冬の湖沼や河川に多く飛来する。Anatidae科。
