北米から中央アメリカにかけて広く分布する小型のタカ（体長24〜34cm）。主に小型の鳥類を捕食し、針葉樹林を好む。青灰色の上面とオレンジ色の横縞がある下面。Accipiter striatus（コシャープシンドホーク）は北米最小のタカの一つで、秋の渡りの際に何千羽もの群れが観察されることがある。Accipitridae科。

ハクトウワシ

ハクトウワシはアメリカ合衆国の国鳥で国の象徴である。DDT農薬使用により一度は絶滅の危機に瀕したが、見事な回復を遂げ、2007年に絶滅危惧種リストから外された。これらの力強い猛禽類は、2トンを超えるものもある鳥類最大の木の巣を作る。
