The Black-mantled Goshawk is a medium-sized, compact hawk with a dark blackish back and mantle, pale gray underparts with fine rufous barring, and yellow cere and feet. It inhabits montane forests of New Guinea at elevations between 900 and 2,800 meters. It preys on small birds and lizards, pursuing them through the forest with agile, rapid flight.

ヨーロッパ・アジア・アフリカ・オーストラリアに広く分布するトビ（体長48〜60cm）。褐色の体と浅い切れ目のある尾が特徴。Milvus migrans（トビ）は日本で最もよく見られる大型猛禽類で、「ピーヒョロロ」と鳴く声は日常的に聞かれる。漁港や食事場所の上空を旋回し、食物を空中でさらうことで有名。Accipitridae科。
