The Black-capped Hemispingus is a small tanager-like bird of Andean cloud forests, with a dark cap and white supercilium giving it a masked appearance. It ranges from Colombia and Venezuela south through Ecuador and Peru, inhabiting humid montane forest undergrowth and shrubby areas above 2,000 meters.
