The Black-capped Hemispingus is a small tanager-like bird of Andean cloud forests, with a dark cap and white supercilium giving it a masked appearance. It ranges from Colombia and Venezuela south through Ecuador and Peru, inhabiting humid montane forest undergrowth and shrubby areas above 2,000 meters. It feeds on insects, berries, and seeds, often in mixed-species flocks.
