84–94 cm, wingspan 171 cm. White with black wingtips; yellow-buff head; blue-grey bill. Breeds only on islands off South Africa and Namibia in the Benguela upwelling. Endangered; dramatic decline due to food competition with purse-seine fisheries. Plunge-dives for anchovy.
Brown Booby
64–74 cm. Dark brown above; white belly and undertail; yellowish bill. The most widespread booby; breeds pantropically on islands worldwide. Feeds on fish and squid near land by plunge-diving; often follows ships. Ground or bush nester; aggressive and bold near colonies.
