About These Birds
Collared Plover
Collared Plover: 14–16 cm, small South American plover with a black breast-band, pale rufous hind-crown, and pinkish-white legs. Inhabits sandy riverbanks, lakeshores, and coastal beaches from Mexico south through Central and South America to Argentina. Insectivorous. Resident and largely sedentary. Often nests on gravel bars in large rivers.
Spot-breasted Lapwing
Spot-breasted Lapwing: 28–30 cm, Ethiopian highland endemic lapwing with a black head and breast spotted white, and red legs. Restricted to high-altitude moorland and montane grassland above 1,800 m in Ethiopia. Insectivorous. Sedentary; rare and little-studied. Declining due to overgrazing and agricultural encroachment.
