A very large bustard (up to 120 cm, 8-18 kg) formerly widespread across the Indian subcontinent. Sandy-brown plumage with black crown. Critically Endangered with fewer than 150 individuals remaining. Once common across arid grasslands, now nearly extinct due to habitat loss and powerline collisions.
African Houbara
A medium-sized bustard (55-65 cm) found in semi-arid grasslands and steppe of North Africa from Morocco to Egypt. Sandy-buff plumage with intricate black markings. Omnivore. Classified as Vulnerable due to hunting and habitat loss. Known for its spectacular courtship display.
