A site recognized by BirdLife International as globally significant for bird conservation.
Explication détaillée
IBAs are identified against four standardized criteria: holding significant numbers of a globally threatened species, exceptional concentrations of congregatory species, significant proportions of a restricted-range species, or exceptional numbers of a biome-restricted assemblage. There are currently over 13,500 IBAs in 200 countries covering roughly 8.4 million km². IBAs provide the site-level basis for protected area designation and biodiversity offsetting schemes, particularly under the EU Birds Directive.
