About These Birds

Tanimbar Scrubfowl

A medium-sized megapode (~990 g) of family Megapodiidae, restricted to the Tanimbar Islands in the Banda Sea of eastern Indonesia. Inhabits coastal and hill forests, building mound nests for solar incubation of eggs. Feeds on fallen fruits, seeds, and invertebrates on the forest floor. Vulnerable due to small island range, deforestation, and sustained egg collection pressure.

Red-billed Brushturkey

A large megapode (~1.8 kg) of family Megapodiidae, bearing a vivid red bill contrasting with black and white plumage. Endemic to lowland and hill forests of western New Guinea. Constructs large mound nests of decaying vegetation for egg incubation without parental brooding. Forages on the forest floor for fruits, seeds, and invertebrates. Least Concern.
