Pied Stilt (Himantopus leucocephalus) is a slender 33–37 cm wader of Australasia. Black and white with very long pink legs; thin black bill. Inhabits freshwater wetlands, estuaries, and coastal lagoons across Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea. Common and familiar. Aggressive defender of nest; performs broken-wing distraction display.
