A medium-sized partridge (~400 g) of family Phasianidae, with a rich rufous breast and finely patterned brown upperparts. Endemic to montane forests in Sichuan Province, southwestern China at 600–2,500 m elevation. Forages on the forest floor for seeds, berries, and invertebrates. Vulnerable; restricted range, habitat degraded by logging and agricultural encroachment in mountain areas.
