Owlet-nightjars; a family of ~12 nocturnal species endemic to Australasia and New Guinea. Small, cryptically patterned, with large eyes and wide gapes. Roost in tree cavities during the day. Occupy diverse forest and shrubland habitats. Related to nightjars but form their own distinct lineage.
