A medium-sized owlet-nightjar found only in the Karimui Basin area of Papua New Guinea. Described from a small number of specimens. Dark plumage with fine barring. Nocturnal insectivore of montane forest. One of the least known of all owlet-nightjars.

Plumage
Brown upperparts with dark barring and pale buff edging; underparts pale buff barred brown; facial disc marked with dark lines; recently described New Guinea species; plumage details incompletely documented from limited specimens.
Habitat & Range
Geographic Range
Endemic to the Karimui Basin of Papua New Guinea at 1,000–2,000 m. One of the rarest birds in New Guinea; known from very few specimens.
Diet & Feeding
Night-active insect hunter taking beetles, moths, and termites in brief aerial pursuits and occasional ground foraging.
