El ángel del sol de Mérida es un colibrí endémico de Venezuela, restringido a la Cordillera de Mérida. Tiene plumaje verde con la garganta iridiscente en el macho. Habita en arbustales subandinos y tepuyes de los Andes venezolanos. Se alimenta de néctar de flores de plantas de montaña. Especie amenazada por la pérdida de hábitat en su rango muy restringido. Es una de las varias especies de ángeles del sol endémicas de localidades específicas de los Andes.
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
The ruby-throated hummingbird is the only breeding hummingbird in eastern North America. These tiny birds beat their wings about 53 times per second and can fly backwards, sideways, and even briefly upside down. They make an extraordinary non-stop 800 km crossing of the Gulf of Mexico during migration.
