About These Birds
Tristan Albatross
Tristan Albatross, 100–110 cm, wingspan 250–300 cm, breeds only on Gough Island in the South Atlantic — one of the world's most isolated islands. Critically Endangered; mouse predation on eggs and chicks is causing severe decline. Pelagic across the South Atlantic; piscivore and squid feeder.
Shy Albatross
Shy Albatross, 90–99 cm, wingspan 220–256 cm, is the largest mollymawk, breeding only on three Tasmanian islands. White body, grey back, narrow black-and-yellow bill. Near Threatened; the most common albatross in Australian waters; affected by longline bycatch and periodic poor breeding seasons.
