Endemic to cloud forest in a restricted area of the Sierra Madre Oriental of eastern Mexico. Forages on the ground for seeds and invertebrates. Vulnerable; critically restricted range in highly fragmented Mexican highland forests, with ongoing habitat loss from agricultural expansion.
