About These Birds

Blue Ground Dove

Small dove, 18–21 cm; male is pale blue-grey with dark wing spots; female is warm brown with purple-chestnut wing bars. Inhabits forest edge, secondary growth, and thickets from Mexico to Bolivia and southeastern Brazil, with a preference for bamboo-seeding events. Granivore of bamboo seeds. Nomadic following bamboo flowering cycles. Least Concern.

Enggano Cuckoo-Dove

Slender cuckoo-dove, 32–35 cm, uniform warm cinnamon-rufous with minimal barring and a relatively short tail. Restricted to Enggano Island off the southwestern coast of Sumatra. Inhabits dense lowland forest. Frugivore. Vulnerable due to extremely small range and ongoing forest loss on the island.
