Brown above; white-spotted black throat and breast with chestnut streaks; flanks grey streaked white; bare red eye-ring; underparts boldly patterned with chestnut and white spotting on black.

Males (peacocks) have iridescent blue-green plumage and an enormous train of elongated upper tail coverts with eye-spots. Females (peahens) are brown and cryptically patterned.

Vulnerable; very restricted island range with severe habitat loss over past decades.
