El pato maicero o ánade georgiano es un pato dabbling de color marrón amarillento moteado con una larga y puntiaguda cola. Distribuido desde Colombia hasta Argentina y Chile, incluyendo las islas del Atlántico sur, habita en humedales andinos de altitud, lagunas pampeanas y marismas costeras. Su nombre alude a la isla Georgia del Sur, donde se reproduce.
