Recorded measurements include a wingspan of 72.3 cm and a weight of 1.6 kg. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Least Concern.

Acerca de
La espátula común (unos 1,5 kg) es inconfundible por su pico largo con el extremo aplanado en forma de espátula, del que toma el nombre. Se alimenta de peces y crustáceos barriendo el agua de lado a lado con el pico ligeramente abierto. Con el plumaje blanco inmaculado y el penacho facial amarillo en época de cría, es de gran elegancia. Se reprodujo en el noroeste de Europa durante siglos pero estuvo a punto de extinguirse. Ahora sus poblaciones están bien recuperadas en los Países Bajos y España.
