A medium-sized hummingbird (10-11 cm) endemic to arid regions of central and southern Mexico. Dull olive-grey plumage, unusually drab for a hummingbird. Long, slightly decurved bill. Nectarivore of dry scrub and thorn forest. Adapted to xeric habitats.

Distribución geográfica
Endemic to arid regions of central and southern Mexico. Resident in dry scrub and thorn forest from Puebla to Oaxaca.

Feeds on nectar from dry-forest flowers and flowering cacti in Mexico. Supplements diet with insects and spiders gleaned from foliage.
