La paloma de Nueva Zelanda o kererū es una gran paloma de 51 cm, robusta y llamativa, con partes superiores iridiscentes verde-doradas y partes inferiores blancas. Es endémica de Nueva Zelanda y tiene gran importancia cultural para los maoríes. Se alimenta de frutos, hojas y flores de los bosques nativos. La única ave capaz de tragar y dispersar las semillas de árboles nativos grandes como el miro y el tawa. Especie protegida que ha recuperado sus poblaciones gracias a la conservación.
