El colibrí hada de orejas purpúreas es un colibrí esbelto de América Central y el noroeste de América del Sur. El macho tiene plumaje verde en las partes superiores y blanco brillante en las inferiores, con manchas purpúreas detrás del ojo y cola larga bifurcada. Habita en bordes de bosque húmedo, jardines y cafetales del nivel del mar a las estribaciones andinas. Se alimenta de néctar de flores, especialmente de plantas como Hamelia y Heliconia.
