El colibrí brillante de frente verde es un colibrí grande de los bosques nublados de América Central y el noroeste de América del Sur. El macho tiene partes superiores verde brillante con un gorjal verde iridiscente y una mancha en el pecho. Habita en bosques del estrato medio y el dosel. Se alimenta del néctar de diversas flores, especialmente de Heliconia. Importante polinizador en los ecosistemas forestales andinos.

Found in humid foothill and lower montane forest from Costa Rica south through Colombia and Ecuador to Peru. 400–1,600 m.
