El papamoscas cerrojillo (unos 13 g) es uno de los migrantes más comunes en los bosques caducifolios de Europa. El macho en plumaje nupcial tiene el dorso negro, el vientre blanco y una mancha blanca en el ala muy llamativa. Es un ave agujero-nidificante que acepta de buen grado las cajas nido. Como sujeto de estudios a largo plazo, ha contribuido enormemente a comprender los efectos del cambio climático sobre las aves migratorias: la llegada de insectos en primavera se ha adelantado más que la llegada de las aves.
