El guión de codornices (unos 150 g) es un rálido casi imposible de ver que lleva una existencia en gran medida oculta entre hierba alta en prados de siega. Su reclamo —un áspero y repetitivo 'crex-crex'— puede oírse durante gran parte de la noche en verano. Las poblaciones han sufrido una drástica reducción por la mecanización de la siega, que destruye nidos y polluelos. Proyectos de conservación que retrasan la siega han ayudado a recuperar poblaciones locales. Migra al África oriental.
