El aguilucho pálido (unos 400 g) presenta un claro dimorfismo sexual: el macho es gris pálido con las puntas negras de las alas, la hembra es parda con la rabadilla blanca. Se reproduce en brezales, humedales y tundra de Eurasia y Norteamérica. Caza volando bajo sobre terreno abierto con las alas en V, buscando principalmente topillos, pájaros y lagartos. Las poblaciones han disminuido en muchas regiones por la pérdida de hábitat y la perturbación de los nidos.
