La cigüeña blanca (unos 3,5 kg) es una de las aves más emblemáticas de Europa y el folklore humano. Con su plumaje blanco y negro y el largo pico y patas rojos, es inconfundible. Construye nidos enormes sobre tejados, chimeneas y postes, a los que regresa año tras año. Migra al África subsahariana formando grandes grupos que aprovechan las corrientes térmicas. Las poblaciones aumentaron gracias a los programas de conservación, aunque la pérdida de pastizales sigue siendo una amenaza.
