A large hummingbird (12-13 cm) found in Andean cloud forests from Venezuela to Peru at 1,000-2,400 m. Brilliant sapphire-blue throat and breast (males), green body. Nectarivore of montane forest edges. One of the most strikingly colored sabrewings.

Nectarivore of Andean cloud forest in Colombia and Venezuela, visiting Heliconia and bromeliads. Takes insects and spiders for protein.
