Männchen räumen sorgfältig eine Fläche des Waldbodens als Balzplatz frei und entfernen dabei jedes Blatt und jeden Zweig. Aufgrund seines eng begrenzten Vorkommens auf wenigen Inseln war die Art der Wissenschaft bis ins späte 20. Jahrhundert kaum bekannt.
