63 cm. Black and white; orange caruncles. Endemic to Auckland Islands, New Zealand subantarctic. Vulnerable; total population estimated at only a few thousand. Feeds on fish and invertebrates in surrounding cold ocean waters. Non-migratory; restricted to the island group.
Red-faced Cormorant
71–89 cm. Dark with vivid red facial skin; blue eyes; glossy green sheen. Breeds Aleutian and western Alaskan islands and NE Asia coasts. Feeds on fish and invertebrates in shallow coastal waters. Near Threatened; populations affected by oil pollution and entanglement in gillnets.
