Der Kormoran ist einer der am weitesten verbreiteten Seevögel der Welt. Anders als die meisten Wasservögel besitzt der Kormoran kein vollständig wasserabweisendes Gefieder, was zu seiner typischen Haltung mit ausgebreiteten Flügeln zum Trocknen führt. In Asien setzen Fischer Kormorane seit über tausend Jahren zum Fischfang ein.
