Antarctic Shag
63–72 cm. Black above; white below; caruncles reduced compared to related shags. Breeds on the Antarctic Peninsula and associated islands. Feeds on fish in cold Antarctic coastal waters. One of the southernmost-breeding cormorants; largely sedentary around breeding colonies.
Pitt Island Shag
63 cm. Dark grey-brown; orange facial skin. Endemic to Pitt Island in the Chatham Islands group, New Zealand. Critically Endangered; fewer than 300 birds known. Feeds on inshore fish in cold coastal waters. Very restricted range on a single isolated island group.
