Der Blaue Pfau ist der Nationalvogel Indiens und einer der spektakulärsten Vögel der Welt. Die riesige, über zwei Meter lange Schleppe des Pfaus wird bei aufwendigen Balzritualen gefächert und in Vibration versetzt. Trotz ihrer Größe können Pfauen kurze Strecken fliegen und übernachten in hohen Bäumen.

A large pheasant (~2.4 kg) of family Phasianidae, males iridescent blue-green and purple with a white rump patch; females brown. Inhabits montane forests and subalpine scrub in northeastern India, northern Myanmar, and southwestern China at 2,400–4,250 m. Forages for bulbs, berries, and invertebrates. Least Concern; occurs at high elevations in the eastern Himalayan region.
