About These Birds

Haussperling

Der Haussperling ist vermutlich der weltweit erfolgreichste Vogel im Zusammenleben mit dem Menschen. 1851 in New York eingeführt, verbreitete er sich innerhalb weniger Jahrzehnte über ganz Nordamerika. Trotz seiner weltweiten Häufigkeit sind die Bestände des Haussperlings in Teilen Westeuropas deutlich zurückgegangen.

Der Rotkardinal ist der Wappenvogel von sieben US-Bundesstaaten – mehr als jede andere Art. Anders als bei vielen Singvögeln singen sowohl Männchen als auch Weibchen, häufig im Duett. Kardinäle sind Standvögel, und ihr leuchtend rotes Gefieder vor winterlichem Schnee macht sie zu einem Liebling der Vogelbeobachter im eigenen Garten.
