Er ist der Nationalvogel Israels und spielt in der Mythologie von der ägyptischen Antike bis zum Koran eine bedeutende Rolle. Haussperling

Der Haussperling ist vermutlich der weltweit erfolgreichste Vogel im Zusammenleben mit dem Menschen. 1851 in New York eingeführt, verbreitete er sich innerhalb weniger Jahrzehnte über ganz Nordamerika. Trotz seiner weltweiten Häufigkeit sind die Bestände des Haussperlings in Teilen Westeuropas deutlich zurückgegangen.
