Blauracke

Die Blauracke verdankt ihren englischen Namen („Roller“) den spektakulären Roll- und Sturzflügen, die Männchen während der Balz vorführen. Sie ist die einzige Rackenart Europas und einer der farbenprächtigsten Vögel des Kontinents. Der Rotkardinal ist der Wappenvogel von sieben US-Bundesstaaten – mehr als jede andere Art. Anders als bei vielen Singvögeln singen sowohl Männchen als auch Weibchen, häufig im Duett. Kardinäle sind Standvögel, und ihr leuchtend rotes Gefieder vor winterlichem Schnee macht sie zu einem Liebling der Vogelbeobachter im eigenen Garten.
