Der Kaiserpinguin ist die größte und schwerste aller Pinguinarten. Männchen bebrüten das einzelne Ei etwa 65 Tage lang auf ihren Füßen unter einer Bruttasche, während sie fasten.

Der Virginia-Uhu ist die kraftvollste und am weitesten verbreitete Eule Amerikas und trägt daher den Beinamen Tiger des Himmels. Er zählt zu den frühesten Brutvögeln und legt seine Eier oft schon im Januar, wenn noch Schnee liegt. Der Virginia-Uhu ist ein gefürchteter Jäger, der regelmäßig Beute erlegt, die bis zu dreimal so schwer ist wie er selbst.
