Der Weißkopfseeadler ist der Nationalvogel und das Symbol der Vereinigten Staaten. Einst durch den Einsatz des Pestizids DDT gefährdet, erholte sich der Bestand bemerkenswert und wurde 2007 von der Liste der gefährdeten Arten gestrichen. Diese kraftvollen Greifvögel bauen die größten Baumhorste aller Vögel, manche mit einem Gewicht von über zwei Tonnen.
Schleiereule
Die Schleiereule besitzt die asymmetrischsten Ohren aller Eulen und damit das feinste Gehörsortungsvermögen im Tierreich. Sie kann Beute allein anhand von Geräuschen in völliger Dunkelheit fangen. Der markante herzförmige Gesichtsschleier der Schleiereule wirkt wie eine Parabolschüssel und leitet den Schall zu den versetzt angeordneten Ohren.
