Der Annakolibri ist der häufigste Kolibri entlang der Pazifikküste und eine von nur drei Kolibriarten, die ganzjährig in den USA verweilen. Männchen zeigen spektakuläre Sturzflüge aus 40 Metern Höhe und fangen sich mit einem lauten, von den Schwanzfedern erzeugten Zwitschern ab. Nachts kann ihre Körpertemperatur nahezu auf Umgebungstemperatur absinken, um Energie zu sparen.

A spectacular hummingbird (10 cm body + 15 cm tail in males) found in Andean highlands from Colombia to Peru at 2,500-4,000 m. Males have extraordinarily long, black outer tail streamers. Nectarivore of páramo and cloud forest edges. Named for its dramatic trailing tail feathers.
