Der Lachende Hans ist der größte Eisvogel der Welt und berühmt für seinen schallenden, lachähnlichen Ruf, der zu einem unverkennbaren Klang des australischen Busches geworden ist. Obwohl er zu den Eisvögeln zählt, frisst er nur selten Fisch und bevorzugt Beute vom Boden. Familiengruppen stimmen bei Sonnenauf- und -untergang gemeinsame Rufchöre an, um ihr Revier zu markieren.
