Brown above streaked black and buff; bare red around eye; throat pinkish-buff with dark scaling; breast grey with chestnut mottling; flanks grey streaked white. Endemic to Taiwan; moderate patterning.

Forages on the forest floor for seeds, berries, and invertebrates. Least Concern; Taiwan's mountain forests are well protected, supporting stable populations of this island endemic.
